Cell Broadcast: The Modern Emergency Alert System

Cell Broadcast (SMS-CB) is a one-to-many messaging technology built into 2G through 5G mobile standards that allows authorities to push emergency alerts to all phones connected to specific cell towers simultaneously. Messages can reach millions of devices in seconds, support geofencing, work without a SIM card, and bypass silent/do-not-disturb modes for high-severity alerts. Different countries implement their own named systems (FR-Alert, DE-Alert, AusAlert) with varying alert severity levels defined by 3GPP standards.
