Hackers exploit critical PTC Windchill PLM software flaw

Hackers are actively exploiting CVE-2026-12569, a critical (CVSS 9.3) unsafe deserialization remote code execution vulnerability in PTC Windchill and FlexPLM — product lifecycle management software used by over 1.5 million users at companies like BMW, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. PTC released patches for multiple versions on June 17-19 and has since updated its advisory with new indicators of compromise showing attackers are deploying web shells on compromised systems. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The software stores highly sensitive intellectual property including CAD designs and engineering data, making it a high-value target for cyber espionage and data extortion. This follows a separate Windchill zero-day earlier in the year that prompted German police to personally contact companies at night to warn them.
