Raja Koduri’s Oxmiq raises $35m to rent out AI chip design instead of selling chips
Oxmiq Labs, founded by veteran chip architect Raja Koduri, has raised a $35m Series A (bringing total funding to $60m) to scale OxCore, a licensable GPU architecture for AI silicon. Rather than selling finished chips, Oxmiq licenses its IP — similar to how Arm licenses processor cores — allowing chipmakers to build custom AI accelerators without the hundreds of millions of dollars and years required for a full design program. OxCore integrates a CUDA-compatible GPU engine, a tensor processing engine, and an orchestration engine in a near-memory compute design. The round was co-led by Fundomo and Samsung Catalyst Fund, with MediaTek, Pegatron, and others participating. Jim Keller (Apple, AMD Zen, Tesla, Tenstorrent) has joined the board. The key open question is whether the licensable-IP model, proven for CPU cores via Arm and RISC-V, can translate to frontier AI accelerators where major players have historically preferred proprietary architectures.
