Venus Aerospace raises $90M Series B to build a new kind of rocket engine

Venus Aerospace has raised a $90M Series B to advance its Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine (RDRE), a technology that creates a supersonic rotating combustion wave for greater efficiency over traditional rocket motors. Originally founded in 2020 to develop hypersonic passenger jets, the company pivoted after a successful 2025 flight test drew interest from defense customers. The round was led by Mercury Fund with participation from Lockheed Martin Ventures and others. Funding will support testing and development for hypersonic weapons and high-speed military space vehicles. The company's key challenge now is extending engine burn time from 32 seconds to 6–15 minutes for operational use.
