Vietnam arrests suspects behind HiAnime anime piracy service

Vietnamese authorities have arrested seven suspects believed to operate HiAnime, once the world's largest anime piracy streaming service before its June shutdown. The platform attracted hundreds of millions of monthly visitors, temporarily outranking Disney+ and Crunchyroll in web traffic. The defendants face charges of copyright infringement and money laundering, accused of running over 100 websites hosting 26,000+ pirated anime titles and generating roughly $12.85 million in illegal ad revenue from 2020 to April 2026. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), backed by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the DOJ, supported the multi-year investigation.
