QuantumDiamonds, a German startup spun out of the Technical University of Munich, has secured €76 million in non-dilutive EU-backed funding plus a €15 million equity round to scale its quantum sensing-based chip inspection technology. The company uses synthetic diamonds to detect defects across all layers of a chip in about two minutes — compressing a process that typically takes weeks — without destroying the chip. This approach is especially relevant as chips become increasingly multi-layered for AI data centers. Already deployed commercially in Taiwan and the U.S., QuantumDiamonds plans to expand from lab-based sample testing to high-throughput 100% quality control in semiconductor fabs, with machines priced in the single-digit millions for lab tools and up to $10–15 million for high-throughput systems.
