Cambridge startup Worldmodeldata has raised £7m in seed funding led by Iona Star Capital to license video game footage and engine data from Unreal and Unity titles, packaging it into training datasets for AI world models. The company targets labs building physical AI, robotics, and self-driving systems, which need action-consequence paired data that games naturally produce. It aims to compile one million hours of gameplay data by end of 2026 — claimed to be 25x the largest existing dataset — though it currently has no revenue or signed customer contracts. The round actually closed in December 2025, seven months before the announcement. Competitors include Origin Lab ($8m raised, 20+ publisher deals) and General Intuition ($454m raised). Worldmodeldata positions itself as a neutral data supplier rather than a model builder, with a deliberate UK/European sovereign AI angle.
