Modern motherboards often still include a speaker header, a legacy feature from pre-LED debugging days that outputs beep codes during POST. Connecting a cheap buzzer to this header lets you diagnose boot failures — like unseated RAM or GPU issues — without opening the case or reading debug LEDs. While debug LEDs and POST code displays have largely replaced beep codes, the speaker header remains useful for systems tucked away or difficult to access, though it has limits: it won't report crashes, thermal throttling, or provide the granular detail of a numeric POST display.
