Best-Ever Brainstem Map Created By Indian Scientists

Indian scientists at the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre have created the most detailed brainstem map ever produced. Using high-resolution microscopy, MRI, and Block Face Imaging on three samples (a 45-week fetus, a 9-year-old, and a 54-year-old), they sliced brainstem tissue into 20–40µm sections, imaged and annotated them with in-house software, and assembled an interactive 3D model explorable in a browser. The dataset could advance research into neurological conditions including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. The preprint is available on bioRxiv but has not yet been peer reviewed.
