Comma.ai Launches A PCIe Gen4 x4 To USB4 Dock With Open-Source Firmware

Comma.ai and Tinygrad's George Hotz announced the Chestnut, a PCIe Gen4 x4 to USB4 dock with open-source firmware, designed to let their driver-assistance systems use larger compute (up to 100W) via GPUs like the AMD Radeon RX 9060, rather than being limited to a 10W footprint. The launch coincides with a new 1B parameter driving model arriving in the upcoming OpenPilot 0.11.2. The dock also works as a general-purpose eGPU enclosure for any PC, not just Comma.ai hardware, and runs on open-source C firmware for the ASM2464PD USB4/Thunderbolt-to-NVMe bridge controller, published on GitHub. The Tiny Chestnut dock alone costs $249, while the version bundled with a Radeon RX 9060 costs $799.
