DLSS5VKLayer Wires Up NVIDIA DLSS 5 For Native Linux Games & Steam Play

DLSS5VKLayer is a new open-source Vulkan layer project that brings NVIDIA DLSS 5 support to native Linux games and Steam Play (Proton) titles. It works by running a Windows NGX neural rendering executable under Wine/Proton and relaying frames via IPC to inject DLSS5-processed frames back into the Vulkan swapchain. It uses NVIDIA Optical Flow for vector generation and can optionally leverage NVIDIA Smooth Motion. Users still need the official NVIDIA driver stack and must manually supply NGX DLLs obtained from NVIDIA's Windows software. A Qt-based GUI and CLI helper are provided. The project discloses that it used Qwen 3.8 Flash Next running locally as AI assistance during development.
