Don’t Try This At Home, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Edition

OpenTMS is an open-source project by Zach McGinty that publishes extensive plans for building a transcranial magnetic stimulation device, including coolant-cooled copper coils and a high-power flyback supply built from microwave oven transformers switched via IGBTs. The project explicitly disclaims being a certified medical device and warns builders of the serious risks of putting kiloamp-level power near the skull. The piece frames this as part of a broader trend of open-source medical hardware, alongside sip-and-puff interfaces and ESP32-based EEGs.
