A hardware hacker reverse-engineered a CR4501 colorimeter by extracting its firmware via a debug port, analyzing it in Ghidra, and patching it to display the nearest RAL color code directly on the device screen. The project involved overcoming challenges like accidental calibration data erasure and bricking. The result eliminates the need to manually cross-reference color readings with a RAL table. An online flashing tool is also provided for others with the same device.
