Intel Introduces New "BFF" Linux Driver To Deal With Aging Silicon & Stuck Bits

Intel has submitted a new Linux driver called 'BFF' (Bitfix Filter) to the kernel mailing list, designed to clear hardware error-reporting filters that can become clogged on aging silicon as bits get stuck over time. The driver is aimed at upcoming Xeon 7 Diamond Rapids processors, whose bitfix filter hardware doesn't exist in any current Intel chip. It missed the Linux v7.3 merge window but could land in v7.4, well ahead of Diamond Rapids' 2027 launch.
