Introducing The Garlic-Powered Door And Window Sensor

Researchers Manas Tiwari and Deepak Bharti built a self-powered door and window sensor using a triboelectric nanogenerator made from ground garlic peel and polyethylene sheeting. Opening a door generates roughly 210 VAC at 45 µA, boosted to 400 VAC and 65 µA with a dual-side garlic peel layer. In testing, the sensor still worked after six months in storage and survived 200 stress cycles, though the prototype still relied on a powerbank to run its MCU rather than being fully self-sufficient.
