A 32 GB monolithic SD card that appeared dead due to a short between the supply rail and ground was diagnosed and repaired using X-ray imaging and a thermal camera to pinpoint the fault. The problem turned out to be two tiny shorted capacitors near the package edge, which were carefully removed, restoring power and allowing full data recovery. The case illustrates that even non-serviceable monolithic SD cards can often be fixed and their data recovered once the failed passive component is identified and removed.
