Archaeological research at the Abric Romaní site in Spain has uncovered 597 wooden imprints preserved in travertine deposits, including spears, clubs, trays, and tripods dating between 62,000 and 40,000 years ago. The findings, published by Palmira Saladié and colleagues, reveal which tree species and parts of trees Neanderthals used to craft these tools, offering rare insight into wooden tool use during the Middle Paleolithic era when Neanderthals and Homo sapiens coexisted in Europe.
