Valve Introduces Pyrowave Video Codec In Beta For Low Latency Streaming

Valve's Steam client beta rolled out Pyrowave, an experimental video codec for high-bandwidth, low-latency streaming, developed by Hans-Kristian Arntzen (known for VKD3D-Proton). It's available on Windows, macOS, and Linux (via the experimental SteamRT3 client), using 5-10x the bandwidth of other streaming codecs, making it best suited for LAN setups with at least Gigabit Ethernet. Pyrowave uses Vulkan and supports HDR and YUV 4:4:4, and can be enabled through Steam Remote Play's advanced client settings.
