FreeType 2.15 Released With Apple HVF Driver, ISO Open Font Format Edition 5

FreeType 2.15 has been released, bringing support for ISO Open Font Format Edition 5, which introduces a VARC table for shrinking CJK variation fonts by up to 90%, support for over 65,536 glyphs in OpenType fonts, and a new GLYF table for mixed cubic/conic outlines. This standard support was contributed by Behdad Esfahbod using LLMs to derive base code from HarfBuzz and other implementations, followed by manual fine-tuning for speed. Apple contributed an experimental HVF driver (currently macOS-only) for its Hierarchical Variable Font format used in newer iOS/macOS releases. The anti-aliased rasterizer now uses dynamic heap memory for large glyphs, improving performance above 40 ppem, and TrueType v40's interpreter gained several ClearType rendering improvements. The release is available on FreeType's GitLab.
