Intel Enables Buffer Compression For Better Gaming Performance With DXVK

Mesa 26.3-devel has merged a change enabling buffer compression for Intel's ANV Vulkan driver when used with DXVK, the layer that translates Direct3D 8/9/10/11 calls to Vulkan for Steam Play. Buffer compression was previously limited to VKD3D (Direct3D 12) and Source2 titles, but the anv_enable_buffer_comp option has now been dropped in favor of enabling color control surface (CCS) compression everywhere. Benchmarks on Intel Arc Battlemage showed up to 5.26% gains in Shadow of Tomb Raider, 4.6% in Total War Warhammer 3, and 2% in Total War Pharaoh, while Xe3 Panther Lake saw up to 4.8% gains in Shadow of Tomb Raider and around 2% in Total War titles. The feature is available now in Mesa Git and will ship as stable with Mesa 26.3 in November.
