Many SOCs now deploy AI as a first-line analyst to triage incidents, but this argument suggests that approach merely shifts the noise problem downstream rather than solving it. A better strategy is to apply AI earlier, during detection engineering, so AI builds smarter detection logic and workflows that filter out non-threats (like unclicked phishing links) before an incident is even created. This upstream approach also reduces costs tied to per-alert pricing from outsourced SOC vendors and limits exposure of sensitive customer data to AI investigation platforms, since AI would refine detection rules rather than inspect live logs.
