Keyboard Lights As An Airgap Attack Vector

A researcher built a covert unidirectional data channel across an air gap using keyboard LEDs and photoresistors. By stripping two Dell SK-8115 keyboards to their controller PCBs, soldering photoresistors to keyboard matrix pins, and aligning them with Num Lock and Caps Lock LEDs, one PC can 'type' on an air-gapped machine by flashing the LEDs in patterns. This technique can be used to inject small programs onto isolated machines as a foothold for further exploitation.
