Restoring An Altimeter Watch To Former Heights

A hobbyist known as Vintage560 restored a vintage Casio AW-330-AT altimeter watch that suffered battery corrosion damage inside. After cleaning the interior with isopropyl alcohol, repositioning an insulator, and bending contacts back into shape, the analog mechanism and most electronics recovered, but the LCD stayed broken. The culprit turned out to be dissolved indium tin oxide contacts on the display, likely from leaked battery chemicals, requiring a replacement screen. The restored watch was later field-tested on a trip to the Alps and held accurate altitude readings with periodic calibration.
