AI Model Context Protocol Adds Centralised Auth for Enterprise

The Model Context Protocol team has promoted its Enterprise-Managed Authorisation (EMA) extension to stable status. EMA replaces per-server OAuth consent prompts with a centralised, zero-touch flow where users sign in once through their enterprise identity provider and automatically gain access to all approved MCP servers. The mechanism uses an Identity Assertion JWT Authorisation Grant (ID-JAG) exchanged for an access token. Importantly, EMA controls connection-level access only — it does not enforce per-action runtime authorisation, so organisations still need separate controls for what agents do once connected. Okta is the first supported identity provider, and adopters include Anthropic (Claude, Claude Code, Cowork), Visual Studio Code, and MCP servers from Asana, Atlassian, Figma, Linear, Supabase, and others.
