ITDR for the Cloud: Identity Threat Detection and Response Explained

ITDR (Identity Threat Detection and Response) is a security discipline coined by Gartner in 2022 that monitors identities at runtime to detect and respond to attacks that bypass authentication controls. Unlike IAM, PAM, or EDR, ITDR assumes credentials will be compromised and watches post-authentication behavior — API call patterns, role assumptions, privilege escalation, and token abuse.
