Microsoft to retire the OWA Light client in Exchange Server

Microsoft has announced that OWA Light, the lightweight version of Outlook Web Access introduced roughly two decades ago for older browsers and low-bandwidth connections, will be disabled and removed in an Exchange Server update estimated for August 2026. The feature was deprecated in August 2024. Admins can proactively disable it now using PowerShell commands: Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -OwaLightEnabled $false and Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -LogonPageLightSelectionEnabled $false. Microsoft cites improved modern browsers, better network conditions, and a changed security landscape as reasons for the retirement.
