UK charges suspects linked to Russian Coms call spoofing platform

UK authorities have charged five London residents in connection with Russian Coms, a caller ID spoofing platform that enabled over 1.8 million scam calls since 2020. The platform allowed criminals to impersonate banks, telecoms, and law enforcement to steal funds and personal data from an estimated 170,000 victims across 107 countries, causing tens of millions in losses. Criminals paid £1,200–£1,400 in cryptocurrency for six-month contracts. The platform was taken down in March 2024 as part of Operation Henhouse, which led to 290 arrests. The five charged face counts including conspiracy to supply articles for fraud and converting criminal property, with a court appearance scheduled for August 14.
