Vulnerabilities Expose Private Data in Indian Government Systems

An independent security researcher, Sushant Bhardwaj, discovered 14 vulnerabilities across Indian government IT systems, including two critical and four high-severity issues. Affected platforms include Delhi education portals and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) national portal, exposing PII such as names, bank account numbers, and exam results for potentially millions of citizens. The most severe flaw left UPSC's administrative authentication interface completely open to the internet, allowing anyone to take over the system. Most vulnerabilities stemmed from missing server-side access controls, predictable file naming, and poor IAM practices rather than sophisticated exploits. The Indian government patched all reported issues within two to three weeks. Experts note that public sector insecurity often stems from legacy infrastructure, resource constraints, and lack of clear ownership over access control across shared systems.
