Code that passes every test can still break the next AI agent that touches it
Google published a case for Go as a language well-suited to AI coding agents, citing its small syntax surface, static typing, gofmt formatting, native fuzzing, govulncheck, and checksum database as guardrails that help agents catch their own mistakes. New tooling includes gopls sending compiler errors to AI tools via MCP, and a rebuilt go fix in Go 1.26 that applies predefined code transformations instead of relying on model rewrites. However, two research studies complicate the maintainability story: one found agents were up to 13.1% less successful completing follow-up tasks on agent-written code versus human-written code, despite both passing initial tests; another found human reviewers needed 11.8% more review rounds for agent-written code, with AI review suggestions accepted only 16.6% of the time versus 56.5% for human suggestions. The studies didn't compare Go against other languages directly, so they don't prove Go produces more maintainable output — but they show passing tests doesn't guarantee code holds up for the next agent or reviewer.
