Gravity Linux Aims To Provide A Nice Experience For Apple M4 & Newer

Gravity Linux has released its first Early Alpha, a new Linux distribution focused on running well on Apple Silicon Macs, starting with the M4 Mac Mini. The alpha includes experimental OpenGL 3.3 / OpenGL ES 3.0 GPU acceleration and runs KDE Plasma on Wayland. Known unsupported features include suspend, USB-C display output, Thunderbolt/USB4, and reliable shutdown/reboot, though HDMI output and most other features work. Future plans target other M4 variants and the MacBook Neo, with hopes of eventually merging work upstream into the Linux kernel. The developers note they used clean-room reverse engineering for hardware support, while leveraging OpenAI Codex and Claude Code as coding assistants during development.
