Open Source Tricorder Is In It For The Science

A long-running open source project called the Open Source Science Tricorder Cyberdeck, created by PeterAJansen over more than a decade, packs a scintillation crystal spectrometer, visible light spectrometer, thermal camera, magnetic field camera, magnetometer, and environmental sensors (temperature, pressure, humidity, particulates, VOCs, CO2) into a Clockwork Pi uConsole form factor powered by a Compute Module 5. Unlike many prior tricorder-inspired builds that focused on matching the show's prop aesthetics, this project prioritizes genuine scientific instrumentation. Full build details, videos, and assembly instructions are available on its GitHub repository.
