The Hexa-Bouncer May Be The Most Overengineered Thing You See This Week

A hobbyist built the Hexa-Bouncer, an elaborate Stewart-platform-style robot using six stepper motors, planetary gearboxes, a Teensy 4.0, two cameras, and a PC with a GPU to bounce a ping-pong ball via real-time inverse kinematics computed in a Unity application. The build required over 300 machined aluminum parts, with 27 pieces per arm alone. The ball-tracking computer vision pipeline was carried over from the creator's earlier octo-bounce robot project. Source files are available on GitHub, and a full writeup lives on the creator's blog alongside a demo video.
