Ubuntu's Myna Speech-To-Text Now Available In Tech Preview

Canonical's Myna speech-to-text tool is now available in tech preview ahead of Ubuntu 26.10's October 15 release, and can also be installed via Snap on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 26.04 LTS. Myna runs locally, requiring internet only for the initial model download, and supports Parakeet, Whisper, and FunASR backends. It transcribes speech directly into the active application via a keyboard shortcut, though Canonical warns it is still under active development with rough edges.
