With Latest Update, Alexa Refuses To Pass The Aux

Amazon has removed voice control over the 3.5mm auxiliary input jack on Echo devices via a software update, though the physical jack itself still works. Users must now use the Alexa smartphone app to mute external audio sources instead of a voice command. Amazon told Ars Technica that usage analytics showed low adoption of the feature, while commenters speculate the real motive is Amazon's inability to track media consumption habits over an unmonitored aux input. The change adds to a broader pattern of the Echo ecosystem losing capabilities over time.
