Your motherboard still has a reset button for a password almost nobody sets anymore

BIOS/UEFI supervisor passwords were common in the 2000s but are rarely used today, yet motherboards still ship with a CLR_CMOS jumper (also labeled JBAT, CLRTC, RTCRST, or CLR_BIOS) that resets BIOS settings to factory defaults. Bridging these pins for 10-15 seconds while the PC is unplugged clears a forgotten password and can also fix unexplained system bugs without lengthy diagnosis. This trick works on desktop motherboards but not on laptops, business machines, or servers, which typically require a specific key sequence for added security.
