Porting the NDK “Endless Tunnel” to iOS: A Masterclass in Cross-Platform C++
A developer ported the Android NDK 'Endless Tunnel' sample to iOS in a project called TunnelFeveriOS. The port uses Objective-C++ (.mm files) to bridge the C++ game engine with Cocoa Touch UI and touch input, and initializes the original OpenGL ES shaders and VBOs within iOS's EAGLContext through GLKit, reaching 60 FPS. It also adds Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) interstitials, using a messaging system so the C++ core can request ads that run on the main UI thread without hanging the game loop. Source code is on GitHub as kowi1/TunnelFeveriOS, and a Metal-based renderer is planned next.
