A TacoSprint 2026 Retrospective
A personal retrospective of TacoSprint 2026, the first Nix community sprint held in North America, at La Saladita, Mexico. The author organized the event alongside Domen Kožar of OceanSprint fame, combining daily surfing sessions with focused Nix hacking. Nine attendees worked on topics including dynamic linking, package relocatability, peer-to-peer remote builds, OCaml module systems, and cross-distribution packaging (including Guix packages as Nix flakes). Challenges included low initial registration due to US travel advisories for Mexico and flight disruptions caused by World Cup demand. The group also produced a parody academic paper titled 'Attention, Nix and Tacos Is All You Need,' with an arXiv submission forthcoming. The sprint is planned to repeat next year.
