CakePHP File Storage: store it once, upload it in pieces – DerEuroMark

CakePHP's FileStorage plugin gains resumable uploads in version 5.3.0, letting large files (up to 5 GiB by default) upload in chunks using a subset of the tus 1.0.0 protocol, compatible with tus-js-client and Uppy. The release also covers deduplication (storing identical file content once via a content hash and new file_storage_blobs table), browser-side hashing to skip redundant uploads entirely, and a BlobImporter for presigned S3 uploads that bypass PHP. The author details implementation challenges: MySQL's zero-affected-rows quirk, PostgreSQL's reserved OFFSET column name, HTTPS proxy Location header issues, and real-world testing with gigabyte-sized files including dropped connections and resumed uploads. A companion framework-agnostic library, php-collective/file-storage 1.1, adds content-hash-based storage paths for any PHP application.
