Elevating app quality: Reducing memory usage and improving device migration

Google Play is introducing two new app quality requirements for Android developers. Starting February 2027, apps and games must meet performance thresholds for dynamic memory usage, bitmap memory usage, and DEX code optimization, or face reduced visibility and publishing restrictions on the Play Store. Starting April 2027, apps supporting sign-in must implement the Zero-Tap Sign-In standard using the Android Restore Credentials API to automatically restore sign-in state during device migrations, with games currently exempt. Play Console tools to help developers diagnose and optimize memory usage are already rolling out, with more diagnostics planned later this year.
