FreeBSD Developing New NTSYNC Driver For Accelerating Windows NT Sync Primitives

FreeBSD's Q2-2026 status report highlights several notable development efforts. A new NTSYNC driver is being built from scratch for FreeBSD, compatible with the Linux 7.0 interface, aimed at improving emulated Windows gaming performance by better emulating Windows NT synchronization primitives. Additional work includes porting AMD ROCm to FreeBSD via a Foundation intern, desktop and laptop improvements (graphics drivers, WiFi, suspend/resume, Framework Laptop support), scheduler and IPv6 enhancements, and new features in the Sylve system management platform.
