Nova Driver Continues Progressing With Long-Term Goal For Official NVIDIA Linux Use

NVIDIA engineer John Hubbard and Red Hat's Danilo Krummrich presented at LPC2026 in Prague on the Nova driver, a Rust-based open-source NVIDIA Linux kernel driver intended as a long-term replacement for both Nouveau and NVIDIA's out-of-tree Open RM resource manager. Nova currently boots the GPU System Processor (GSP) with firmware on Turing through Blackwell hardware, with basic functionality online but not yet ready for end users. Remaining work includes VM guest support for Linux and Windows, virtualization features, getting Vulkan Compute and CUDA apps running, and more graphics/display functionality. Nova is not API-compatible with existing out-of-tree interfaces, requiring adaptation of NVIDIA's user-space driver components, and no committed timeline has been given.
