Verify it, don’t assume it: why untested security controls are making life easy for attackers
Security executives from Rocket Software, Titania, Synack, and AttackIQ argue that organizations are falsely assuming their deployed security controls still work, when in reality network drift, configuration changes, and AI-accelerated attacker speed demand continuous validation rather than one-time compliance checks. Synack's 2026 State of Vulnerabilities Report found remote code execution findings rose 39% in 2025, brute force findings rose 17%, and enterprises on average test only 32% of their exposed attack surface. The piece advocates moving from periodic compliance exercises to continuous threat exposure management (CTEM) and adversarial exposure validation to prove, rather than assume, that defenses actually work.
