Git was designed as a decentralized system but has been funneled into centralized hosting platforms. With AI agents becoming the primary producers of code, this centralization creates bottlenecks: rate limiting, outages, and constrained development cycles. The proposed evolution involves two key shifts: storing agent session logs (prompts, tool calls, decisions) alongside code as a semantic memory layer to preserve intent and provenance, and returning Git hosting to its distributed roots so fleets of agents can operate at scale with local, resilient access patterns. This decentralized model also enables digital sovereignty and data residency for organizations.
