Forterra has deployed over 100 autonomous Lancer ATVs in Ukraine over the past nine months, marking what the company claims is the largest deployment of US autonomous ground vehicles in combat. The gas-powered vehicles, based on Polaris ATVs with custom sensors and compute, have completed 1,100+ missions, driven 2,500+ miles, and carried over 777,000 pounds of cargo including 52 casualty evacuations. Ukrainian soldiers have largely been teleoperating rather than fully autonomously running the vehicles, as current autonomy cannot yet react to live enemy threats. Key lessons learned include electronic warfare adaptation, remote software updates, and terrain navigation. Forterra is now combining classical robotics with generative AI to close the gap toward full battlefield autonomy, while facing pressure to reduce costs as attrition on the battlefield is significant.
Two of Apple's largest Chinese suppliers, Luxshare Precision and Lingyi iTech, are racing to list on the Hong Kong stock exchange in the same week, together raising roughly $4bn. Both companies are using the capital to pivot from smartphone component manufacturing toward AI hardware and humanoid robotics. Lingyi raised $1.1bn at the top of its price range and is targeting 500,000 humanoid robots annually by 2030, while Luxshare is gauging interest for a ~$3bn listing. The rush is partly driven by a June filing deadline that lets companies avoid refiling financials. Hong Kong IPO proceeds are on track for a six-year high of $43bn in 2026. Analysts note caution: Hong Kong shares priced at steep discounts to mainland listings, China's humanoid robot sector is crowded with over 150 competitors, and demand at scale remains unproven.
Day 2 of RoboCup 2026's humanoid league features 17 countries and teams across three divisions (small, middle, large). CAU Mountain&Sea leads the small division with a perfect record. B-Human dominates the middle division with a +35 goal difference. Tsinghua Hephaestus is the sole unbeaten team in the large division. Notable robot stats include the heaviest competitor at 48kg/160cm (ALICE 4) and the lightest at 3.8kg/53cm (ITAndroids' Chape). Knockout rounds begin tomorrow, with 12 teams per division advancing.
RoboCup 2026 in Incheon, South Korea concluded its humanoid league competitions, with winners crowned across small, middle, and large divisions. In the small division, Invic from Wuhan University took first place. B-Human from Universität Bremen and DFKI won the middle division, while Tsinghua Hephaestus claimed the large division title. Five league-wide awards were also presented, including Best Humanoid Software to B-Human and Best Innovation to Bahia Robotics Team. The event continues with a symposium on robotics and AI research.
Forterra has deployed over 100 autonomous Lancer ATVs in Ukraine since October, completing 1,100 missions, carrying 777,440 pounds of cargo, and performing 52 casualty evacuations across 2,500 miles. The vehicles are based on Polaris ATVs with custom sensor and compute stacks, and are gas-powered with 750kg payload capacity. Despite the scale, soldiers still primarily teleoperate them in combat because the autonomy cannot yet identify and react to unexpected enemy threats. Forterra is working on combining classical robotics with generative AI for more generalised reactions. Cost remains a key barrier — the vehicles are too expensive to treat as disposable like drones. Competitors including Scout AI, Field AI, and Overland AI are also trialling UGVs with the US military.
NVIDIA and Hugging Face are integrating NVIDIA Isaac GR00T 1.7 (an open VLA model for humanoid robots) and Isaac Teleop (a data collection framework) into LeRobot, Hugging Face's open source robotics library. NVIDIA Cosmos 3, a frontier world foundation model, is also planned for future integration. Together these additions give developers a standardized, open pipeline for robot data collection, model training, fine-tuning, simulation, and deployment. The collaboration connects NVIDIA's 3 million robotics developers with Hugging Face's 16 million AI builders, and builds on existing resources including a large open physical AI dataset with over 15 million downloads, Isaac Sim/Lab simulation frameworks, and Jetson Thor hardware integration.
