Infinite Mac now lets you run many versions of BeOS directly in the browser, booting instantly with streamed disk images. The author worked on BeOS support using DingusPPC, the PowerPC Mac emulator, fixing bugs like a modifier-key glitch in ADB emulation and a missing little-endian video memory mode. The author believes that with these fixes DingusPPC is the only emulator able to run PowerPC versions of BeOS. The site also gained screenshot and video capture of the emulated screen, and OS CD-ROMs are now mirrored on the author's own Cloudflare R2 bucket because streaming from the Internet Archive has been flaky.

A custom RISC-V CPU was built on an FPGA and used to run a retro gaming console. The system runs on a Terasic DE0-Nano board with 32 MB of RAM and boots into a launcher with 32 games. A 64×32 display limitation keeps the same aspect ratio as the original DOOM while sustaining 45 FPS. The project writeup covers bare metal design, the CPU itself, video signal timing, and a Wolfenstein-style raycaster implementation.
FloppoScope is a browser-based tool for analyzing floppy disk images, from [0ldStaph]. It runs entirely locally, so no data leaves your machine. The tool draws a color-coded map of the disk layout, shows filesystem details, and lets you preview common file types. It can convert between image formats and report bad sectors or corrupted files. Supported formats include PC, Apple, Amiga, Atari DOS, BBC Micro, Sharp MZ, and NeXTSTEP, plus both image and flux file captures.
A talk at Vintage Computing Festival Berlin traces much of modern computing hardware back to Sun Microsystems. Andy Bechtolsheim, later Sun's co-founder, designed a workstation CPU board around Motorola's 68000 processor while a postgraduate at Stanford University. Since the 68000 lacked an MMU, he built one externally using a bank of SRAM as the page table. That design formed the CPU board of the first Sun workstation. Sun supplied the same CPU board to other companies, including Silicon Graphics, whose first workstation used the same CPU, and it appeared in early Imagen laser printers and AppleTalk to Ethernet bridges. The original board was also used as a router, and that router software became part of Cisco's first product.
Jan de Jager built a fully browser-based emulator for an Intel 80486DX2-66 PC. It's written entirely in ES6 JavaScript and emulates not just the CPU but the motherboard and ISA/VLB adapter cards too. It runs SeaBIOS, VGA BIOS, and FreeDOS 1.3, plus classic games like Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem, and DOOM. A control panel lets you configure storage and expansion cards.
Aaron Ardiri published his personal archive of Palm OS development tools, source code, and documentation. He had assumed Palm OS was forgotten until a developer contacted him about old software he wrote decades ago, revealing an active enthusiast community. The archive covers his years working with Palm OS in the early mobile computing era. Ardiri says preservation captures how engineers solved problems under the constraints of their time, knowledge that is easily lost when companies disappear and platforms are discontinued.
The Commodore 1600 VICModem was perhaps the first phone modem to sell for under $100. Commodore outsourced the design to Anchor Automation, which built it around a Motorola MC14412 modem chip plus six other chips. The chip could technically handle 600 baud, but the modem was rated for 300, while rival 300 baud modems cost at least twice as much and 1200 baud units ran $600 or more. To save money it connected directly to the phone line but couldn't dial for you, so users had to dial manually and plug the handset cord into the modem. Commodore also bundled a Y cable called the VIC-1605 to work around handsets without modular jacks.
