Restart EC2 and on-premises fleets faster with AWS CodeDeploy RESTART deployment mode

AWS CodeDeploy introduces a new RESTART deployment mode that reapplies a fleet's last successful revision to EC2 and on-premises hosts without a full redeploy. It preserves standard CodeDeploy safeguards—batch sizing, health checks, CloudWatch alarm monitoring, and rollback—while reusing locally cached revision archives (agent 2.1.0+) to skip network transfer. In testing with m5.large fleets, restarts ran up to 6.14x faster than standard deployments, cutting multi-minute rollouts to tens of seconds. The feature supports EC2/on-premises in-place deployment groups only (not ECS or Lambda), can be invoked via CLI, console, or as part of automated remediation loops triggered by CloudWatch alarms and EventBridge/Lambda.
