Mesa Drops Its Poorly Maintained & Rarely Used Direct3D 10 User-Mode Driver
Mesa is removing its Direct3D 10 User-Mode Driver (d3d10umd), a Gallium3D state tracker introduced in 2021 that mimicked Windows' WARP rasterizer using LLVMpipe. The driver, originally built by VMware for virtualization use cases on Windows, was rarely used and never updated to use NIR, the preferred intermediate representation, remaining stuck on the legacy TGSI format. With Mesa developers working to eliminate TGSI entirely, and no objections from original VMware contributor Jose Fonseca, the 12,700 lines of d3d10umd code were removed via a merge request, with the change landing in the upcoming Mesa 26.3 release.
