OpenClaw is finally available on Android and iOS

OpenClaw, the free open source AI agent that went viral earlier this year, is now available as a mobile app on both iOS and Android. Users can pair the app with the OpenClaw Gateway, a routing layer that connects requests to AI agents and their tools. The launch follows OpenClaw's earlier buzz around MoltBook, a social media site supposedly populated by agents that was later revealed to involve humans impersonating agents. OpenClaw's creator Peter Steinberger has since joined OpenAI.

OpenClaw and Hermes agree on what an agent is. They disagree on what controls it.

Two open-source agent harnesses — OpenClaw and Hermes Agent — are competing to define the control layer for autonomous AI agents. OpenClaw takes a gateway-first approach, connecting agents to dozens of messaging channels with a large skills marketplace, and has attracted backing from OpenAI, Nvidia (NemoClaw), and Microsoft (Scout). Hermes Agent from Nous Research takes a memory-first approach, enabling persistent context across sessions and self-improving skills, running on self-managed infrastructure. Platform vendors like Nvidia and Microsoft are building governance, identity, and observability layers on top of both projects rather than picking one. Key enterprise concerns include accountability for agents that rewrite their own memory, vendor lock-in on policy engines, and security risks from unvetted skill marketplaces. Memory is emerging as the primary form of lock-in, more durable than channel reach.
