How one leader rebuilt his feedback loop with an AI agent
Fernando Garcia Valenzuela, Head of Cloud Storage Engineering at Atlassian, built a personal set of AI agents (a Slack-based 'pit wall') to audit his own written communication across a 70+ person distributed team. One agent, Smedley, runs daily and flags missed moments of recognition in direct messages with suggested rewrites; another, Brundle, runs fortnightly and analyzes broader patterns like tone shifts by audience or day. Built using Slack, Rovo, and Confluence, the system taught him that small, consistent communication gaps compound more than dramatic failures, that defining 'good' communication explicitly is the hardest part of prompting the agents, and that simply knowing the agents would review his messages changed how he wrote them in real time.
