Supervisors By Hand

A hands-on walkthrough builds an OTP-style supervisor from scratch using only four Erlang/Elixir primitives: spawn, send/receive, monitor, and link. The author creates a toy 'Goatherder' supervisor that spawns 'Goat' worker processes, monitors them, and restarts them when they crash, mirroring how real OTP supervisors work internally. Interactive REPL code blocks let readers run the examples directly in the browser. The piece closes by listing what's missing compared to real Supervisors, such as restart rate limiting and multiple supervision strategies, and includes a link to the full source code.
